EXERCISE
On the chalk wall inside Zone Six, you can see a quote that encapsulates exactly what we are about.
It reads, “High Performance Coaching For High Performance Living” and speaks of our ethos and belief that living, in and of itself, requires a degree of high performance.
If that sounds like a stretch for you, consider this:
We are designed to move and, as such, when we don’t we tend to suffer. The longer that non-movement continues, the more the suffering increases.
Inactivity costs $117 billion in the United States alone according to the Centre for Disease Control, and the same body state that; ‘Not getting enough physical activity can lead to heart disease—even for people who have no other risk factors. It can also increase the likelihood of developing other heart disease risk factors, including obesity, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes.’
Also in the U.S. the Heart Foundation, in a 2011 study, which documented 800,000 people and their sitting habits, found that people who sit the most, compared to people who sit the least, have a greater risk of disease and death specifically:
• 112% increased risk of diabetes
• 147% increased risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack and strokes
• 90% increased risk of death from cardiovascular events
• 49% increased risk of death from any cause
These results alone should leave you with no confusion whatsoever, that the lack of physical activity is probably the greatest threat to living a healthy and maybe longer life.
So, here at Zone Six, we are committed to doing what we can to help people live vibrant, healthy, active lives and we do that with our strength training and performance programmes.
The human body is designed to move, not sit all day. Fitness, agility, mobility, speed, power, conditioning are all vital and are known as bio-motor abilities and all should be trained regularly - use it or lose it!
However, strength is known as a prime bio-motor ability and as such has the ability to not only increase itself directly, but also to have an indirect effect on all the other abilities at the same time.
This is one of the main reasons Zone Six is unique in that all the programmes we write and perform in the gym is that we are committed to helping members improve their strength and therefore their health and everyday life.
Now don’t think that strength training is just about lifting heavy barbells and dumbbells. One thing we are at pains to have new members realise is that strength is relative and will meet you exactly where you are.
Our team of highly experienced, former professional athlete, coaches will guide you though the monthly programmes that are designed to improve all members, no matter where they are physically.
All programmes will move you through the fundamental movement patterns, squat, hinge, push, pull, lunge, and rotation (or anti-rotation, it’s the same thing) and help you get stronger, fitter, more mobile and agile, whilst improving your health and body fat levels (should that need addressing.)
The benefit of working with us here at Zone Six is that we take the guesswork out of your training. All you need to do is walk through the front door and our world-class coaches will take care of the rest.

MINDSET
It was Aristotle who said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act, but a habit,” and many years ago I heard probably the best definition of success from Earl Nightingale, who described success as the “progressive realisation of a worthy ideal.”
These are two of the very best quotes you will ever come across that encapsulate what mindset is all about.
This small booklet isn’t really the forum to describe the neuroscientific process in which your mind directs all your daily activities and, ultimately, your results, but I can simplify it in this way:
We have a thought, that thought leads to a choice, which leads to us behaving in a certain way, or taking an action, which gives us an experience, the end result of which is an emotion, which leads to another thought.
This is where most people are right now, stuck in a never ending cycle of thinking and feeling. The thinking is always the same, because nothing ever changes. We think the same, make the same choices, behave in the same manner, which ultimately gives us the same result, and we then experience the familiar emotion driving yet more of the same thinking.
It’s no wonder people don’t change and if they try to they usually focus on the wrong element, their behaviour or actions. This, ultimately, never works because, as Aristotle said, we are defined by what we repeatedly do, our habits, which are always driving what we think, in other words, our mindset.
This is exactly why most New Years Resolutions fail after two short weeks which is why we recommend you set habits and not goals!
Another quote that might be worthy of your attention here is from renowned psychiatrist, Carl Jung, who said, “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”
In other words, in order to break that cycle of thinking and feeling you will consciously have to think in a new way, make different choices, act in a new way, enjoy a different result, and then experience a new emotion. How do you think in a new way? With new information, with better knowledge.
Here at Zone Six we work closely with clients on this process, helping them with new information which supports them on their journey and which they can incorporate into their daily lives.
We have a mental performance coach on our team who has spent twenty years working with all sorts of people, from elite athletes to stressed children, from different backgrounds and environments, and is something we at Zone Six take very seriously.
In order to amplify the results of your training, it is vital that you align your mindset with your training and your vision for yourself - by doing so, you will guarantee your results.
